Joining the Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra

The PVS orchestra rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-10:00 pm at the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association Building in Old Deerfield. Generally five – six Saturday evening concerts are given between October and June. During concert weeks, in addition to the Wednesday rehearsal there is a Friday dress rehearsal. The core membership of the orchestra consists of about 70 musicians, with expansion to 90 or more musicians for large works. The quality of the Pioneer Valley Symphony attracts musicians from a wide geographic area. Current members come from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire. Inquiries from interested players of all instruments are always welcome. Most members of the orchestra are unpaid volunteer musicians of outstanding musical ability. Any musician interested in joining the Pioneer Valley Symphony should contact the orchestra's Personnel Manager, Cecilia Berger, at 413-773-3664 or by email at cberger@pvso.org.

Joining the Pioneer Valley Symphony Chorus

The PVS Chorus rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:30 pm in the auditorium of The Bement School. The chorus generally performs with the orchestra in December and May, and has a separate choral concert in the spring or fall. During performance weeks, in addition to the regular Tuesday night rehearsal, there is a Wednesday rehearsal with the orchestra, and a Friday dress rehearsal. The chorus consists of 80-100 singers. Some are beginners, some are music professionals, many have enjoyed a life-long involvement in choral singing. The chorus is open to any singer who is committed to spending the time—both in and out of rehearsal—necessary to prepare the assigned material for performance. There is no formal audition, though new members are heard individually by the Chorus Director. There are no dues. Singers purchase their music and concert costume (shirt and tie or bow). Anyone interested in joining the chorus should contact the office via phone at 413-773-3664 or email at pvsoffice@pvso.org.
