Join the Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra
The PVS orchestra rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 10:00 pm at the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association Building in Old Deerfield. Generally four to five Saturday evening concerts are given between October and May.
The performance quality of the Pioneer Valley Symphony, under Maestro Paul Phillips, attracts musicians from a wide geographic area. The core auditioned membership of the orchestra consists of about 70 musicians, with expansion to 90 or more musicians for large works. Current members come from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire.
During concert weeks, in addition to the Wednesday evening technical rehearsal, there is a Friday evening dress rehearsal just before the concert.
Inquiries from interested players of all instruments are always welcome. Most members of the orchestra are unpaid volunteer musicians of outstanding musical ability. Any musician interested in joining the Pioneer Valley Symphony should contact the orchestra's Personnel Manager, Fleur Barnes-Rowell at 413-773-3664 or by email at fvbarnes@charter.net
Join the Pioneer Valley Symphony Chorus
Our group of singers consists of some music professionals and many experienced non-professionals who have significant singing ability and/or experience in choral groups. This fully auditioned chorus is open to singers who are committed to spending the time—both in and out of rehearsal—necessary to prepare the assigned material for performance.
The PVS chorus generally performs with the orchestra in at least two concerts each season. Special concerts or performance opportunities are sometimes added in advance of the season. The chorus rehearses from September to May on Tuesday evenings, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in specified locations in the Greenfield-Deerfield, Mass. area.
During performance weeks, just before a concert, in addition to the regular Tuesday evening rehearsal there is a Wednesday evening technical rehearsal with the orchestra and a Friday evening dress rehearsal.
A modest membership fee, paid each semester, covers a portion of the chorus' operating expenses, including the accompanist’s stipend, and the cost of the music. We welcome new singers to our group. Anyone interested in joining the chorus should contact the office by phone at 413-773-3664 or email at pvsoffice@pvso.org
